Boiler brands in Newfoundland and Labrador

Newfoundland and Labrador is mostly electrically heated, and its takeCHARGE oil-to-electric incentive can fund electric boilers. That gives an NL boiler brand a specific, current program to explain, carefully.

Written by Ali Sedighi, MBALast updated:

Newfoundland and Labrador offers something rare for a boiler specialist: a current, funded program that can include boilers. As of October 2026, takeCHARGE's Oil to Electric Incentive Program lists electric boilers among the systems that can replace oil or propane heat, with incentives of up to $22,000 paid through participating installers. For a boiler brand that participates, that is a clear message. For one that doesn't, it is a reason to be careful about what the site implies.

The NL market for boiler specialists

Short answer: mostly electric, with an oil minority that is being encouraged to switch.

Statistics Canada reports electricity as the primary heating energy for 64% of NL households in 2023, and oil for 13%. Boiler work here includes oil-fired systems nearing replacement, conversions to electric boilers or heat pumps, existing electric hydronic systems and radiant installations.

St. John's and its neighbours (Conception Bay South, Paradise and Mount Pearl) form the main market. Corner Brook, Grand Falls-Windsor and Gander serve central and western Newfoundland, and Happy Valley-Goose Bay serves Labrador. Distances are long, so a brand should claim only the areas it can genuinely reach.

Climate and the boiler calendar

Short answer: a cool, damp, windy maritime climate on the island and much colder subarctic winters in Labrador.

The island's heating season is long, and wind and damp make comfort a real selling point. Labrador's winters are far colder. A brand serving both needs different emphasis: comfort, efficiency and conversion planning on the island, urgent reliability in Labrador. Conversion projects suit late spring and summer, when owners can plan around program paperwork and installation schedules.

Short answer: Engineering and Inspection Services for pressure systems, the trades certification division and WorkplaceNL.

State your licences and permits accurately and link to the province. We summarise and link; we don't advise on compliance.

Programs to mention with care

Short answer: takeCHARGE is open and budget-limited, and a new federal agreement is on the way.

  • The Oil to Electric Incentive Program, run by takeCHARGE (Newfoundland Power and NL Hydro) with federal and provincial support, offers up to $22,000, or up to 100% of cost, depending on technology, income and household size. It is processed based on budget availability, with no end date listed.
  • takeCHARGE also lists insulation and air sealing rebates.
  • A federal agreement announced on October 16, 2026 will fund free upgrades through takeCHARGE for more than 1,400 low- to median-income households; launch details were not confirmed at the time of writing.

A takeCHARGE explainer page can be one of the most useful pages on an NL boiler site, as long as it carries a date, links to takeCHARGE and says plainly whether your company is a participating installer.

How we would build an NL boiler brand

Short answer: lead with conversion expertise, explain the program accurately and claim only the territory you can reach.

  1. Brand. Positioned on oil-to-electric conversion and hydronic comfort. See specialist brand and division strategy.
  2. Site. Conversion, electric boiler and radiant system pages, a program explainer, and genuine pages for each community you serve. See boiler-only websites.
  3. Library. Technician-reviewed content comparing electric boilers and heat pumps for homes with existing radiators, through our technical content service.
  4. Local search. Accurate service areas and review routines in each community.

Other regions are on the areas hub.

Frequently asked questions

Does takeCHARGE fund electric boilers?

As of October 2026, takeCHARGE's Oil to Electric Incentive Program lists heat pumps, electric furnaces and boilers among eligible replacements for oil or propane whole-home heating, with up to $22,000 depending on technology, income and household size. Funds are paid to participating installers. Confirm terms with takeCHARGE.

Who oversees boilers in Newfoundland and Labrador?

The province's Engineering and Inspection Services office, under Government Services. A boiler installation or alteration needs a permit first and an inspection once the work is done.

Can we say we are a takeCHARGE installer?

Only if you are a participating installer. Never imply program participation you don't have; check your status with takeCHARGE first.
